Mexaio AI — mechanism synthesis and parametric kinematics
Mexaio AI is the IDO platform for mechanism design. State the motion you need, the envelope it has to live in and the loads it carries, and get a synthesised linkage with kinematics, interference checks and parametric CAD you can keep editing.

Motion targets in, mechanism out
Most mechanism work starts with a sketch that already assumes an answer. Mexaio works the other way. You give the required path, the timing, the travel and the packaging limits, and the platform searches linkage topologies and dimensions that satisfy them.
- Four-bar, six-bar, slider-crank and cam topologies synthesised against a target path
- Kinematic sweep with interference and travel checks
- Force and torque profiles across the cycle
- Parametric CAD output, so a changed requirement is a re-solve rather than a remodel
Where it fits
Mexaio suits small and mid-size manufacturing and robotics shops: grippers, feeders, clamping and indexing mechanisms, folding structures, actuated covers and test rigs. It is aimed at people who have to make the part, not only draw it, so manufacturability sits in the loop.
Why the traditional route is slow
A mechanism usually gets sketched by a senior engineer, modelled by a CAD modeller, then checked in a motion study once it is too late to change the topology cheaply. Every requirement change walks the same path again. Keeping the kinematics parametric means the geometry follows the requirement instead of the other way round.
A packaging line needs a gripper that clears a fixed frame
A contract manufacturer needs a gripper that lifts a carton, rotates it 90 degrees and places it, all inside an existing frame with 140 mm of clearance. The first hand-drawn linkage collides with the frame at mid-travel and nobody notices until the motion study. Mexaio takes the path, the cycle time and the envelope as constraints up front, returns linkage candidates that clear the frame through the whole sweep, and keeps the dimensions parametric when the carton size changes.
Common questions
Is this generative shape optimisation?
No. Topology optimisation gives you an organic bracket. Mexaio works on mechanisms: what moves, how it moves, and whether the linkage that produces that motion fits and holds up.
What do I hand over to start?
The required motion or path, cycle timing, the packaging envelope, the load at the end effector and any fixed mounting points. Material and manufacturing process help, because they narrow the dimension search.
Can I edit the result in my own CAD?
Yes. Output is parametric CAD geometry with the driving dimensions exposed, so it opens in your tool and stays editable.
